Seasoned
banker Jawaid Iqbal appointed CEO of United Bank Ltd. (UBL)
The Board of Directors of United Bank Limited (UBL) has appointed Muhammad Jawaid Iqbal as President and CEO of the bank with a tenure of three years.
He replaces
Shazad Dada who has cited personal reasons for stepping down.
A statement from
the UBL said the Board of Directors appreciates the contributions of Shazad Dada which led the bank towards
achieving excellent growth and financial results.
Jawaid Iqbal has
been a member of the Board of Directors of UBL since December 14, 2022.
Iqbal is the
founder of Providus Capital (Private) Limited, an investment firm established
in 2017, which primarily invests into public equity markets of Pakistan.
The new CEO of
the UBL brings over two decades of
banking experience. His previous stints were at Emirates Bank International
PJSC Pakistan, National Bank of Pakistan and Allied Bank Limited at senior
managerial positions.
Iqbal has an
impressive educational background and his academic credentials include an MBA
from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Pakistan. He is also a Chartered Financial
Analyst (CFA) from the CFA Institute in the US. In addition, he completed an
Advanced Management Program from Harvard Business School, US.
Meanwhile, UBL’s
board has appointed Zia Ijaz as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the bank with
immediate effect.
Ijaz has been
associated with UBL since 2014 and successfully managed branch banking and
international business.
