Banks to close for three days on Ashura
In observance of Ashura, all banks in the nation will remain
closed for three days, as announced by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) in a
statement released on Tuesday.
The State Bank of Pakistan will be closed on July 28 and 29,
2023 (Friday and Saturday), which are public holidays in honor of Ashura (9th
and 10th of Moharram, 1445 A.H.), as stated in the central bank's announcement.
This closure will extend to three days due to the subsequent
Sunday following Ashura holidays.
On July 28 and 29, the nation will observe Ashura Days, Muharram
9 and 10, paying tribute to the sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and
his companions during the Battle of Karbala.
Earlier, the federal administration had declared the ninth and
tenth days of Muharram (July 28 and 29) as public holidays, as confirmed in a
notification issued by the Cabinet Division. The Prime Minister declared these
days as public holidays to commemorate Ashura (9th and 10th Moharram 1445 AH).
