President Zardari calls for granting more financial autonomy to women
President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the importance of financial
autonomy for women, highlighting that improving their access to financial
services and credit is crucial for encouraging women entrepreneurs. He urged
banks to support these entrepreneurs and increase women's representation in the
banking sector.
The president made these remarks during a meeting with the Group Chief
Executive of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB), Bill Winters, and his delegation at
Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday. The SCB delegation briefed President Zardari on the
bank's contributions to Pakistan's economy, the development of the banking
industry, and the country's socio-economic progress.

President Zardari stated that economic empowerment of women not only
strengthens them financially but also uplifts their families and contributes to
the national economy. He stressed that banks should support women entrepreneurs
and increase their presence in the banking sector.
Welcoming the delegation, President Zardari highlighted Pakistan's efforts
to protect the environment and promote reforestation. He mentioned that the
Sindh government had successfully planted mangrove forests and earned
significant revenue through carbon credit trading in the international market.
The president suggested that investing in the climate sector would benefit
the environment and called for investments in the agricultural sector and
financing infrastructure projects, particularly small dams, barrages, and power
plants. He also urged banks to extend financial services and loans to farmers
to enhance their access to agricultural inputs.
