Bank Alfalah, WWF launch plantation drive
Bank Alfalah, in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for
Nature Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan), has launched a commendable environmental
initiative called GreenWay Forward - a plantation drive aimed at contributing
to the reforestation of mangroves and enhancing natural resource management in
Pakistan.
The joint effort between WWF-Pakistan and Bank Alfalah focuses
on planting a minimum of 15,000 saplings at the Wetlands in Sandspit, Karachi,
representing the total number of employees at the Bank. To ensure the success
of this plantation initiative, WWF-Pakistan will provide comprehensive
post-care for the saplings for a duration of one year. This care includes
regular monitoring and the replacement of any planted saplings, ensuring the
long-term sustainability of the project.
The planting of 15,000 mangrove trees is a momentous step
towards safeguarding Karachi's coastal ecosystem. The extensive mangroves in
Sindh's coastal zone, covering approximately 600,000 hectares, play a vital
role in mitigating the impacts of climate change by acting as natural barriers
against erosion, storm surges, and coastal flooding.
Bank Alfalah's commitment to sustainability is further evident
through its pledge to plant 100,000 trees across Pakistan by the year 2030.
This ambitious initiative reflects the Bank's dedication to environmental
conservation and its proactive approach to combatting climate change.
The Bank aims to foster a tripartite partnership between the government, civil society, and the public-private sector, working collaboratively to promote a greener environment and a sustainable nation. This multi-stakeholder approach is essential for achieving lasting and impactful environmental improvements in Pakistan.
