BISP to open millions of bank accounts of its beneficiaries
In a landmark step toward women's
financial empowerment in Pakistan, the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP)
is set to open individual bank accounts for all nine million of its female
beneficiaries. The initiative is aimed at promoting financial independence,
increasing transparency, and restoring dignity to the program’s recipients.
“This is a transformative
initiative,” said Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson of BISP, during a
strategic meeting held at BISP headquarters with State Bank of Pakistan Deputy
Governor Saleem Ullah and Secretary Amer Ali Ahmed.

empowerment and transparency for millions of women,” Senator Khalid added.
The meeting finalized plans for a
pilot phase of the bank account rollout, which will launch in seven districts
across the country. Senator Khalid emphasized that this effort aligns with the
vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, reinforcing women’s roles in
Pakistan’s social and economic progress.
BISP Secretary Amer Ali Ahmed
underscored the importance of careful preparation and a comprehensive outreach
and media strategy to ensure smooth implementation.
“This initiative is crucial, and we
must ensure that every beneficiary feels empowered and included. Field offices
must be fully prepared to support this transition,” he stated.
